ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf(PTI) has postponed its Faisalabad public meeting scheduled for May 8, apprehending repetition of ‘embarrassing episodes’ that were witnessed during its Islamabad and Lahore gatherings.
Several female activists of the party were allegedly harassed and teased during both the rallies after male participants forced their way into women enclosures and pulverised the scene. Whiling announcing the postponement of the Faisalabad rally, PTI Chairman Imran Khan said on Wednesday that he no more trusted the Punjab Police after they failed to stop the mismanagement and misconduct during his Lahore rally.
“No untoward incident happened during our 126-day sit-in at D-Chowk in Islamabad. The government is afraid of the success of our public gatherings that is why it is circumscribing women’s role in politics through a systematic propaganda and by mistreating them in public gatherings,” he said.
He demanded that the perpetrators, who maltreated women in the meetings, should be brought to book irrespective of their political affiliations.He said that the PTI will show its public power on May 9 and May 11 in Peshawar and Bannu respectively.
