ISLAMABAD: Eight officers of director rank in National Accountability Bureau (NAB) have approached the top court to allow them to plead in a suo moto against illegalities, contraventions & violations in appointments within NAB. Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali on August 17 had taken suo moto notice on an anonymous letter pointing out the irregularities and illegalities in appointment of BPS 20 and above officers of NAB.
A three-judge bench headed by the chief justice will take up the matter for hearing on August 24 (today). Chairman NAB and Attorney General for Pakistan are already issued notices in the matter.
Siddiqui requested the apex court to issue directives to the Chairman NAB to declare induction / absorption, out of turn promotion and acting /current charge of all these six officers of the Bureau illegal, unlawful with all consequential affects. It is pertinent to mention that the anonymous letter revealed that currently 16 officers from amongst BPS-20 and BPS-21 senior officers are working on deputation out of total 32 officers of these grades. It was also disclosed that the majority of officers are posted on OPS against higher grades particularly DGs of various Regional NABs.
The document disclosed that a few names of senior NAB officers (ex military officers) who were brought in the NAB on deputation period of 3 years from 1999 to 2002, later got absorbed in the NAB while 27 military officers served the NAB being in military service.
