Urumqi: A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Pakistan and China to work jointly for elimination of corruption.
National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry and, Shohrat Zakir, governor of Xinjiang province in Urumqi, Chian, signed the deal.
At the signing ceremony, matters of mutual interest also came under discussion. The mayor of Urumqi and representatives from the Central Commission for Discipline and Inspection were also present. Speaking on the occasion, the NAB chief said cooperation between the two countries to eradicate corruption would be enhanced. Giving some of the details about the working of the bureau, the chairman said the bureau was established to eradicate corruption and looted money from corrupt persons. He said the NAB had chalked out a comprehensive three-pronged strategy – awareness, prevention and enforcement for corruption eradication. Due to our collective efforts, the PILDAT, Transparency International and the World Economic Forum have appreciated our performance, which was a great achievement for Pakistan,” he said, adding that all stakeholders, including civil society, media and people could collaborate to check corruption.
The governor appreciated that NAB efforts for eradication of corruption under the leadership Qamar Zaman Chaudhry. He said signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between China and Pakistan to eradicate corruption was a milestone achievement, which would enable both countries to work jointly in future.
